Our Best and Worst at The Golden Globes

The yearly anticipation for the Golden Globes is more about the red carpet than the actual award show itself.  Of course, we like to see our favorite celebrities gathered in a room having a few glasses too many, but we’re all really dying to see what they’re wearing.  Unfortunately, putting together a top 10 this year was not easy.  There were a couple we LOVED, but not very many stood out and some were just dreadful. Let’s get started, we’ll go from best to worst.

1. Claire Danes was our favorite in this J. Mendel pre-fall 2012 dress.  She looked very Hollywood and elegant in the back-revealing piece that did wonders for her figure.

2. Kate Beckinsale looked stunning in this Roberto Cavalli dress.

3. Tilda Swinton brought a smile to our faces in this gorgeous Haider Ackerman piece.

4. We loved the Lanvin dress Emma Stone wore, though we wish she would have 86ed the belt.

5. We love a train and Charlize Theron looked lovely in this Christian Dior dress. Wish she did something different with her hair.

6. Julie Bowen caught our eye.  The Reem Acra dress was beautiful. Some wished she had gone with a little color and though it may look a little muted, the dress still looked great going down the red carpet.

7. Nicole Kidman looked like a mannequin on the red carpet in a beautifully detailed Versace gown.

8. Angelina Jolie has definitely impressed us more in past years but she is still stunning in this Atelier Versace gown.

9. When we think of Sofia Vergara on the red carpet this is exactly how we imagine her.  We weren’t surprised at all but she knows how to choose a dress to accentuate her curves, beautiful in Vera Wang.

10. Viola Davis is actually wearing a very beautiful Emilio Pucci dress but the lack of jewels/accessories/ANYTHING distracted us all from how beautiful the actual dress was. And we wish she went with a different shoe.

11. Evan Rachel Wood look good from some angles, but the Gucci piece was definitely not a favorite.

12. Natalie Portman was extremely disappointing in this Lanvin gown. It looked a bit like a step sister piece from Cinderella and a little Macy’s prom… and for someone with such a petite frame we wish she would have done it better. Regardless of the unflattering piece, she’s still just such an elegant woman.

13. Kelley Osborn wore a structured Zac Posen gown and we understand where she was going but the bulky fabric and sharp edges contrasted the elegant and “flowy” trend we’re appreciating more this year.

14. Lea Michele wore Marchesa, which you typically just can’t go wrong with but there was a bit of awkwardness in the air. You didn’t quite know whether to love or hate it which left it in this uncomfortable limbo…definitely a “the dress wore her” situation. And not really this season.

15. Jessica Biel wore a wedding dress on the red carpet. Not the place. Didn’t quite pull it off.

16. We hated everything about Madonna’s Reem Acra gown, especially watching her overexposed cleavage as she accepted her award.

17. It was a tough call between Sarah Michelle Gellar and Piper Perabo so these last two are in no particular order.  If you happened to miss Piper Perabo on the red carpet how shocked were you when she got on stage in the sheer and slightly cheap looking Theyskens’ Theory Collection dress. It just was not Golden Globes ready.

18. Apparently Sarah Michelle Gellar let her child choose this piece.  That’s cute, but leave it for a mall date…not the Golden Globes.
